Prayer Shawl

Prayer Shawl Ministry

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb." ~ Psalm 139:13

Prayer Shawl What is a Prayer Shawl?

A Prayer Shawl (also known as a Shawl of Healing, Comfort of Peace, or a Mantle) is a gift of love wrapped in prayer. The person creating the shawl prays for its recipient before, during, and after working on the shawl, asking for God's blessing and love to surround and enfold the recipient, bringing healing, peace, and encouragement, which are knit or crocheted into every stitch.

There are as many reasons to give prayer shawls as there are people to receive them. Some common occasions include suffering from an illness or injury, mourning, becoming a new mother, graduation, birthdays, anniversaries, encouragement, congratulations... the list goes on and on. The creation of loving Prayer Shawls for people needing the warm arms of love wrapped around them is the mission of Beacon of Hope United Methodist Church's Prayer Shawl Ministry.
